Candle Care Guide.
Follow these tips to get the longest, cleanest, most fragrant burn from every candle.
Trim your wick
Before every burn, trim your wick to ¼ inch (6mm). A long wick produces a large flame, sooty smoke, and uneven wax. Use scissors, nail clippers, or a dedicated wick trimmer.
First burn matters most
On your very first burn, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the vessel before extinguishing. This prevents tunneling — a permanent hole in the center of the candle — and ensures even burns for the candle's entire life.
Limit burn time
Never burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Longer burns cause the wick to 'mushroom', the wax to overheat, and the scent throw to diminish. Let it cool for at least 2 hours before relighting.
Avoid drafts
Burning near open windows, fans, or vents causes uneven melting and excessive soot. Place your candle on a level, stable surface away from air currents.
Stop at ½ inch
When only ½ inch of wax remains, stop burning. Burning past this point risks overheating the vessel, potentially cracking it or damaging the surface beneath.
Extinguish safely
Use a candle snuffer or dip the wick into the wax pool with a wick dipper to extinguish — this prevents hot wax from splattering and stops the wick from smoking. Never blow out a soy candle directly.
Repurpose the vessel
Once the wax is spent, place the vessel in the freezer for 30 minutes — the remaining wax will contract and pop out cleanly. Wash with warm soapy water and repurpose as a planter, pencil cup, or drinkware.
